Real Madrid stars show respect as they avoid stepping on Manchester City badge on training walkout

Ahead of their Champions League quarter-final second-leg match, Real Madrid players, including Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior, were seen avoiding stepping on the City emblem in the tunnel leading to the pitch, adhering to a tradition in Spain of respecting club crests.

As the players proceeded through the tunnel onto the pitch for their final training session before Wednesday night’s Champions League quarter-final second-leg, cameras captured the Los Blancos team, including Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior, purposefully sidestepping the City emblem embedded in the corridor floor.

This gesture reflects a tradition observed in Spain, where players refrain from stepping on a club crest, a habit ingrained in most of the Madrid squad and quickly adopted by Bellingham. Similar footage surfaced during a quarter-final match in 2022, when Atletico Madrid’s Luis Suarez and Rodrigo De Paul also avoided stepping on the same badge in the Etihad tunnel.

It will be intriguing to observe how this off-field display of respect holds up once the match kicks off in Manchester on Wednesday evening, especially considering the finely balanced nature of the tie following their thrilling 3-3 draw in the first leg.
