Premier League referees’ chief Howard Webb is set to admit that Nottingham Forest should have been awarded a penalty in their controversial defeat against Everton. The match, which took place on April 21, saw Forest denied three penalty shouts against Ashley Young, according to the City Ground club.
Despite the acknowledgment of the missed penalty, Forest is likely to face four FA charges for their response to the game. The club’s social media post, suggesting that VAR Stuart Attwell may have been influenced due to being a Luton fan, has sparked controversy and led to potential charges. The Premier League’s Key Match Incident panel has reviewed the incidents and determined that while the first two penalty shouts were not valid, the third incident involving Young and Callum Hudson-Odoi should have been given as a foul. Webb is expected to publicly agree with this assessment during the upcoming edition of “Match Officials Mic’d Up.”
Forest, who are currently winless in four matches, sit in 17th place in the league, just one point above Luton and two above Burnley. Their upcoming fixtures include a crucial match against Burnley on the final day of the season, which could determine their survival in the Premier League.
