Kimmich has been consistently associated with a potential transfer to Barcelona in recent summers, and this speculation persists as the upcoming summer approaches. The German midfielder has addressed these rumours ahead of Bayern Munich’s Champions League semi-final encounter with Real Madrid.

In an interview with AS, Kimmich discussed his future plans: “I want to talk to Bayern. And when I do that, I won’t go out and talk to the press about it. I’m only focused on the two games against Real Madrid.”

Regarding the Barcelona links, he remarked, “At the moment I’m not thinking about this. As I already said, I will speak to Bayern first. But of course, Barcelona and Real Madrid are amazing clubs with an amazing history.”

Regarding the influence of the next Bayern coach on his contract situation, Kimmich commented, “It’s an intriguing aspect for me, but it’s not my primary concern right now. I understand that when you sign a contract, it’s with the club, not the coach. The club’s welfare is paramount to me, not just the coach’s. However, it’s also crucial to understand the coach’s perspective on the team. The responsibility of selecting the coach rests with other individuals within the club.”

With Kimmich’s contract expiring in the summer of 2025 and no discussions regarding an extension having taken place yet, speculation persists about his future at the Allianz Arena. If an extension isn’t agreed upon with Bayern, there’s a possibility that the club might opt to sell the 29-year-old this summer to avoid losing him for free next year.

Kimmich will next feature in Bayern’s clash against Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final on Tuesday, April 30th.
