Arsenal and England’s rising star, Saka, admitted to leaving a Premier League match prematurely between Arsenal and Chelsea in 2018, only to miss his team’s late equalizer. Expressing regret, he revealed that he wishes he had stayed until the final whistle.
In a Q&A session with Snickers Global, Saka was asked to rate a scenario where a fan leaves early for a snack and misses a crucial goal. Reflecting on his own experience, the Gunners’ talent responded, “That’s an 11 actually. I’ve done that before. It’s a bad feeling. I remember leaving Arsenal vs Chelsea early, Hector Bellerin scored a late, late equaliser and I heard it from leaving outside. Some of you gotta think about that one.”
Saka reminisced about the game from the 2017/18 season when he was still part of Arsenal’s academy. Jack Wilshere had given the hosts the lead in the 63rd minute, but Chelsea equalized through Eden Hazard’s penalty and then took the lead with Marcos Alonso’s strike. However, Bellerin salvaged a point with a late equalizer. It was during the following season, 2018/19, that Saka made his professional debut for the club.
As Mikel Arteta’s team leads the title race, their next challenge comes on Sunday against Manchester City in a crucial league encounter.
