Kai Rooney has dropped a significant clue regarding his father’s potential next job following Wayne Rooney’s departure from DC United.

The former England football legend led the MLS team for 15 months, concluding their season with a 2-0 victory over New York City, though they fell short of reaching the playoffs.

DC United currently holds the ninth position in the 15-team league.

After the match, Wayne Rooney confirmed his departure, sparking speculation about a possible return to English management, especially considering his successful stint at Derby County during a challenging period for the club.

Despite this, the former Manchester United and Everton striker emphasized that he currently has no concrete plans lined up.

Nonetheless, Wayne Rooney has been linked to the managerial role at Birmingham City, where NFL icon Tom Brady holds a minority ownership stake.

Recently, the current manager, John Eustace, was rumoured to be connected with Rangers, who had recently dismissed Michael Beale.

If Eustace were to leave St Andrew’s, it’s reported that Rooney would be a prime candidate for Birmingham City’s new American owners.

Adding to the speculation, Kai Rooney has shown his support by following several Birmingham players on Instagram, as well as the club’s Community Trust and women’s team.

During his farewell press conference with DC United, Wayne Rooney disclosed that he had received a job offer in England just last month.

He stated, “I got offered a job four weeks ago very close to my home in England. I turned that down because I wanted to push and do everything I can to make the play-offs here.”

“I wanted to do everything right to try and make the play-offs. Now we can’t, it’s the right time for the players to know, then yourselves [the media]. I wish everyone here success in the future. I’m grateful.”

However, Birmingham City fans may be hesitant to welcome a change in management, as the team currently occupies a playoff position after enduring several years of hardship both on and off the field.
