Raheem Sterling reportedly turned down a lucrative transfer offer from Saudi Arabia last summer, opting to stay at Chelsea instead. The winger could have become one of the highest-paid players in the Saudi Pro League but chose to remain at Stamford Bridge for another season. According to the Telegraph, Sterling received an offer from the Middle East that would have tripled his Chelsea wages, which are currently at £ 300,000 per week.
Despite the significant financial incentive, Sterling had no intention of leaving Chelsea after just one season following his move from Manchester City in 2022. Sterling, 29, joined Chelsea on a five-year deal and scored nine goals in his debut campaign, though the team finished 14th, their lowest position since 1994. This season, Sterling has already contributed five goals and six assists in the league, second only to Cole Palmer in goal contributions for Chelsea.
Sterling will face his former club, Manchester City, on Saturday, with Chelsea looking to climb the table under Mauricio Pochettino’s management. Chelsea also have a chance to win their first trophy under Pochettino in the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool next weekend. Having won the competition five times with City, including four consecutive triumphs between 2018 and 2021, Sterling remains a key player for Chelsea as they aim for success in domestic and European competitions.
