In a surprising twist of fate, the current Burnley manager finds himself at the forefront of potential managerial changes at Bayern Munich, despite Burnley’s tumultuous season. However, Guardiola, who previously led Bayern Munich to three consecutive Bundesliga titles from 2013 to 2016, has offered strong support for his former player.

Commenting on the prospect of Kompany’s appointment, Guardiola expressed his approval, stating, “I’m happy with that link, if this happens, that Bayern are linked to Vinny. I have a huge opinion about Vinny, it doesn’t matter if he was relegated with Burnley.”

“What I felt when I played against him, and I know him a little bit, I have a high standard opinion about his work, as a person, because of his personality, knowledge about the game and how he handles the media, and many things. I would love Bayern to make the best decision, they deserve it, I love that club, and I’m in love with Bayern Munich for many, many reasons, especially the people that are still there – and hopefully, they can make the best decision. If they believe that Vinny is the right decision, from Manchester City, they have a guy that we will support unconditionally.”

Guardiola also entertained the idea of Kompany managing Manchester City in the future, hinting, “For sure. You will call me when this is going to happen,”

Bayern Munich’s quest for a new manager has been protracted, with notable figures like Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, and Ralf Rangnick reportedly declining the role. Despite being an unexpected contender, Kompany has emerged as a viable option. Negotiations with Burnley regarding compensation are underway, with reports suggesting Burnley seeks £17 million ($22m) while Bayern is inclined to pay half that amount. However, a potential compromise of around £13 million ($16m) could finalize the deal.

If the agreement is reached, it would mark a significant career progression for Kompany, transitioning from managing a relegated team to one of football’s most prestigious clubs. His appointment would also provide relief for Bayern, who have faced challenges in finding a suitable successor to Thomas Tuchel.
