Former Swedish forward Kurt Hamrin, renowned as one of Serie A’s most prolific goal scorers, has passed away at the age of 89.

Hamrin’s demise occurred on Sunday morning in Florence, where he spent his final years. He notably played for Juventus, Fiorentina, Milan, and Napoli during his illustrious career.

His Italian journey commenced in 1956 when he joined Juventus from AIK. Although plagued by injuries in Turin, he found success on loan at Padova in 1957 before permanently joining Fiorentina the subsequent year.

During his tenure in Florence, Hamrin flourished, netting 151 goals across 289 matches. This feat ranks him as Fiorentina’s second-highest scorer, behind Gabriel Omar Batistuta. Additionally, he secured the Coppa Italia twice while representing Fiorentina.

Hamrin left his mark at Milan upon joining them at the age of 33 in 1967. Despite scoring 17 goals in 61 appearances at the Stadio Meazza, he played a pivotal role in securing the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1967-68 and the subsequent European Cup (now known as the Champions League).

Residing in Coverciano, Florence, with his spouse, Hamrin stands as the ninth-highest goal scorer in Serie A history, tallying 190 goals across 400 appearances.

In tribute to his legacy, both Fiorentina and Milan expressed their condolences on social media, underscoring his enduring impact on the sport.
