As per Brazilian outlet UOL, the former defender found himself stuck in Barcelona while awaiting trial and turned to his ex-international and clubmate for help. Neymar allegedly transferred €150,000 to the Spanish courts on August 9 as a form of compensation for potential damages. This payment is believed to potentially reduce any sentence Dani Alves might face if convicted.

Alves, a former Brazilian national player, faces allegations of sexually assaulting a 23-year-old woman in a Barcelona nightclub in December 2021, a claim he asserts was consensual. UOL highlights Neymar’s involvement as crucial since Alves’ assets were frozen post his divorce from Dinorah Santana, who is suing him for alimony non-payment.

Neymar’s assistance went beyond financial aid. Around the same time as the money transfer, on June 28, UOL reported that Alves appointed Gustavo Xisto, a senior member of Neymar’s father’s companies, as his legal representative. Concurrently, Alves removed Santana from managing his assets.

Alves’ trial is slated for February 5-7, where a potential conviction could lead to a sentence ranging from four to 15 years. A Spanish prosecutor is reportedly seeking a nine-year prison term, with the €150,000 payment potentially impacting the sentence. Moreover, the 40-year-old might face a restraining order following any potential jail time, as per Reuters.
