AC Milan’s rising talent Francesco Camarda barred from Champions League clash with Newcastle due to UEFA’s weird rule

Due to a stringent UEFA regulation, Francesco Camarda, a teenager for AC Milan, will not participate in Newcastle United's Champions League match the following month.

The youngest player in Serie A history, at just 15 years old, made his mark in a recent match against Fiorentina, entering the game during the last seven minutes to replace Luka Jovic. The San Siro crowd greeted his cameo appearance with a standing ovation, impressed by his performance. Known for averaging approximately 5.5 goals per game at the youth level, this forward has generated excitement among supporters eager to see more of his talent on display.

Despite the anticipation surrounding his potential debut in the Champions League during Milan’s final Group F match against Newcastle, fate has a different plan. UEFA regulations dictate that a player cannot make their debut in this competition before the age of 16 without a professional contract. As Camarda won’t turn 16 until March, he remains ineligible for European competition.

Additionally, he is currently serving a suspension after receiving a red card in a recent Youth League game against Paris Saint-Germain’s U19s. Although he trained with the first team ahead of Milan’s 3-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund, he was not part of the squad.

Milan’s position at the bottom of the group, with their sole victory against PSG last month, adds pressure to their need for a win against Newcastle to have any chance of progressing to the last 16.

In a post-match interview, Manager Stefano Piolo expressed disappointment, highlighting missed opportunities, defensive lapses, and the team’s inability to capitalize on chances. He noted the game’s turning points, emphasizing the opponent’s clinical finishing and their dangerous attacks in open spaces.
