Paolo Maldini has addressed Paolo Scaroni’s recent mixed message after the Milan CEO’s recent remarks, disputing any insinuations of bitterness.

The iconic former defender, who dedicated his entire 24-year playing career to the Rossoneri, served as part of the club’s staff from 2018 until last year. His abrupt dismissal by new owner Gerry Cardinale during the summer took many by surprise.

Maldini’s departure didn’t sit well with fans, who expressed anger at losing such a pivotal figure in Milan’s history. Others voiced concerns about the club’s direction under American ownership, fearing a shift towards financial priorities over on-field success.

When asked about recent communication with Maldini post his departure, Milan president Scaroni responded bluntly: “I haven’t heard from him. When somebody looks at the past with bitterness, it means that he’s not living the present too well.”

Responding to Scaroni’s remarks via Corriere della Sera, the former Rossoneri star rebuffed any insinuations of bitterness, remarking, “Reflecting on my past brings me joy.”
