Grealish acknowledged that this season has presented significant challenges for him, largely due to injuries and inconsistent form. The 28-year-old suffered from a severe dead leg at the beginning of the campaign, followed by a recurring groin problem in the new year, which further impeded his performance. He expressed frustration at the modern football culture’s heavy emphasis on goals and assists, considering it bothersome.

His injuries limited his participation to just 17 Premier League matches this season, during which he managed to score three goals. This stands in stark contrast to the previous season, where he played a pivotal role in City’s triple triumph, although he notably featured in both legs of their Champions League quarter-final defeat against Real Madrid.

Reflecting on his turbulent season, Grealish remarked, “It’s been difficult (this season). Especially on the back of last year, I had such a good season. I was playing a lot and was one of the main players in the team and playing in all the important games.”

He explained how a dead leg sidelined him for a month at the start of the season, affecting his playing time and confidence. Additionally, he endured further setbacks with his groin in the new year.

However, Grealish expressed optimism about his recent performance, stating, “Recently, obviously I haven’t scored yet, but I feel good, I feel fit and I feel like I’m playing with good confidence. Hopefully, I can bring that into the end of the season.”

Regarding his grievances with modern football, he lamented, “It’s annoying the way the game has gone because you can have a brilliant game and not get a goal or an assist and they say ‘ah, he didn’t do this or that. And then you can score two tap-ins at the back post and not play well at all and everyone’s like ‘ah, he’s brilliant’.”

Looking ahead, Grealish is eager to feature in City’s FA Cup semi-final clash against Chelsea at Wembley, seeking redemption following their European setback. He is also anticipated to be included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming European Championships this summer.
