A UEFA Euro Qualifier between Sweden and Belgium came to an abrupt halt as Swedish players decided not to play the second half following a tragic shooting incident in Brussels. Two Swedish supporters in football shirts were reportedly shot dead, raising concerns over whether they had attended the match at the King Baudouin Stadium on the city’s outskirts.

The shooting, suspected to be a terrorist attack, occurred at 7:20 p.m., with the gunmen fleeing the Boulevard d’Ypres area. Another person was injured during the incident. In response, supporters were asked to remain inside the stadium for their safety, as the assailant remained at large.

Belgium’s official Twitter account stated, “Due to the incidents in Brussels earlier tonight, play is suspended. Our thoughts are with all those affected.” Sweden’s official account urged Swedish supporters to stay in the arena for security reasons.

With the score at 1-1 after the first half, the game was ultimately abandoned around 30 minutes after halftime. Belgium’s Prime Minister, Alexander de Croo, expressed his condolences to the Swedish Prime Minister, emphasizing the joint effort against terrorism.
