Despite Cole Palmer netting four goals and his team securing a resounding 6-0 victory, the match was marred by a dispute among some players regarding a penalty kick against Everton. Palmer, Noni Madueke, Nicolas Jackson, and Conor Gallagher engaged in a heated argument over who should take the penalty, prompting questions directed at Pochettino during the post-match press conference.

Growing increasingly frustrated with the line of questioning, Pochettino abruptly exited the press conference room. However, before leaving, he voiced his discontent with journalists focusing solely on the players’ argument. One journalist criticized the management of the press conference, calling it inadequate.

While acknowledging that Jackson and Madueke were at fault for their involvement in the altercation with Palmer, Pochettino commended Gallagher for assuming leadership as the team’s captain. When asked about potential disciplinary actions, Pochettino emphasized the importance of learning from the incident rather than imposing punishments. He stressed the need for improved behaviour, particularly highlighting Palmer’s designated role as the penalty taker.

Expressing collective agreement that such behaviour should not recur, Pochettino emphasized the players’ wrongdoing.

Looking ahead, Pochettino and his team will focus on preparing for their upcoming FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City, followed by a crucial clash with London rivals and contenders for the Premier League title, Arsenal, on April 23.
