The 24-year-old’s future has sparked speculation, with Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea reportedly interested in meeting his €175 million (£150m/$189m) release clause this summer. However, in a comprehensive interview, Furlani expressed optimism about retaining their dynamic winger.

“Rafa has a release clause of €175 million,” Furlani revealed to Gazzetta dello Sport. “But aside of that, he wants to stay in Milan. He’s very comfortable here, he should be the one asking us to leave but he doesn’t want to. Long live Leao at Milan.”

Since joining Milan from Lille in 2019, Leao has become a pivotal figure for the team. It’s no wonder that several of Europe’s top clubs are tempted to trigger his release clause. Yet, with four years remaining on his current contract, Furlani views Leao as a cornerstone for the club’s future, especially as they seek to fill the void left by the departure of veteran Olivier Giroud, who is heading to MLS.

As Leao returns from international duty, Milan gears up for a Serie A clash against Fiorentina on Saturday night. With aspirations to close the gap on league leaders Inter, Furlani acknowledges the significance of Leao’s role in their ongoing campaign.
