Sven-Goran Eriksson confessed to being moved to tears during a heartfelt rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” as he fulfilled his final wish of managing Liverpool. Leading a team of Reds legends to a 4-2 victory over Ajax at Anfield, the former England manager, who disclosed his battle with terminal pancreatic cancer earlier this year, expressed that not having the opportunity to manage Liverpool was among his career’s regrets.

Invited by the organizers of Liverpool’s annual legends match to helm the Merseysiders against Ajax, Eriksson received a standing ovation from the Liverpool faithful prior to the game. Clearly touched, the 76-year-old was visibly emotional as he was introduced to the Anfield crowd, who then serenaded him with the club’s anthem, “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” before kick-off.

The poignant rendition evoked strong emotions from Eriksson, who later admitted to being brought to tears. Reflecting on the experience with LFCTV, the Swede remarked, “Everybody was a winner today. It was beautiful, absolutely incredible. Everything from You’ll Never Walk Alone and the rest of the match. It was a good win. We were only 2-0… we were all the time the better team. It was a fair result. But this [gestures to the crowd] was fantastic.”
