The former Manchester City and Liverpool winger had a forgettable night during the club’s FA Cup quarter-final clash against Leicester City on Sunday. Sterling’s performance was disappointing, marked by a missed penalty in the first half and a poorly executed free-kick towards the end of the second half, which drew criticism from the fans at Stamford Bridge. Despite the eventual victory for his team, Sterling took to Instagram to apologize for his subpar display.
On Instagram, several Chelsea players, including Palmer, Malo Gusto, and Enzo Fernandez, expressed support for Sterling, emphasizing that mistakes happen and there’s no need for apologies.
Palmer reassured Sterling, saying, “My brother. Shit happens no need to apologise gg”. Gusto echoed similar sentiments, stating, “Big bro no need to apologise”. Fernandez chimed in with a supportive “Come on Raz.”
Manager Mauricio Pochettino also defended Sterling, urging fans not to judge him harshly based on one unfortunate performance.
Looking ahead, Chelsea will face reigning champions Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final. Their next match in the Premier League is scheduled after the international break on March 30 against Burnley.
