On Sunday morning, the Brazil national team declared that Casemiro, a midfielder for Manchester United, would be unable to participate in the upcoming international matches against England and Spain due to injury. Porto midfielder Pepe has been summoned to take his place, stepping in for the former Real Madrid player.

In a statement issued by the national team earlier today, Brazil manager Dorival Junior stated, “We have just received a report from Dr. Rodrigo Lasmar. From a pre-list made by the Brazilian National Team’s technical committee with 50 names, 13 of them were already away due to injury at their clubs.”

“Unfortunately, we also lost Casemiro. Therefore, Pepe, from Porto, a native striker who now plays as a midfielder, is called up.”

Casemiro had already missed 17 games between October and January earlier in the season due to injury, and it appears he will now be sidelined for additional matches with Erik ten Hag’s team.

Manchester United is scheduled to play against Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday afternoon. In Casemiro’s absence, the Red Devils’ manager will need to rely on Kobbie Mainoo, Scott McTominay, and Sofyan Amrabat.

The specifics of Casemiro’s injury and the expected duration of his absence have not been disclosed yet. The international break follows the Liverpool match, with United’s next fixture slated for March 30 against Brentford.
