Quincy Promes arrested in Dubai, faces extradition to serve prison sentence

Quincy Promes, a former Dutch international, has been arrested in Dubai for drug charges and is set to be extradited to the Netherlands for a six-year prison sentence. Promes, who currently plays for Spartak Moscow in Russia, was previously sentenced to one-and-a-half years in jail for stabbing his cousin. He chose to stay in Russia, believing he had an "untouchable" status.

Quincy Promes Arrested In Dubai, Faces Extradition To Serve Prison Sentence

Former Dutch international Quincy Promes has been arrested at Dubai International Airport following a drug charge. The 32-year-old winger is set to be extradited to the Netherlands to serve a six-year prison sentence for aiding the import of 1,363kg of cocaine. Promes, who currently plays for Spartak Moscow in Russia, was also sentenced last year to one-and-a-half years in jail for stabbing his cousin in the leg.

Despite these legal issues, Promes did not attend either trial, choosing instead to stay in Russia, where he believed he enjoyed an “untouchable” status. However, Promes has been living in Dubai rather than Russia for some time now. He refused to return to Russia with his team after Spartak went to the UAE for warm-weather training. Reports indicate that he was living in a luxury hotel and dating American rapper DreamDoll before his arrest.

Promes’ arrest in Dubai came after his involvement in a car accident on February 29. Following consultations between the judiciaries of Holland and Dubai, it was decided that he would be extradited to Holland. He had been under house arrest since February, but this was converted to a jail sentence.
