Argentina’s coach, Lionel Scaloni, has included the 26-year-old Lisandro Martinez in his squad for the forthcoming friendly matches against El Salvador and Costa Rica this month. Despite Martinez being sidelined with an injury since early February, rendering him unfit to play for the Albiceleste.

Scaloni’s decision to include the defender in the roster for the upcoming games in the United States, as reported by ESPN, is to keep Martinez close to the team, even if he cannot actively participate. Looking ahead to the Copa America, Scaloni anticipates having Martinez back in contention for the summer tournament. He believes that spending time with Lionel Messi and the other key players during the friendly matches will be advantageous for Martinez and the team.

This season, Martinez has made only 10 appearances for United, as he faced a foot injury in mid-September, which kept him out until January. Following just four appearances upon his return, he suffered another setback, sidelining him since early February.

While undergoing rehabilitation with United, Martinez aims to regain fitness for Erik ten Hag’s squad in the near future. However, he’ll have to support his teammates from the sidelines as United takes on Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday.
