According to ESPN reports, Manchester United’s recruitment team is actively exploring transfer opportunities across Europe, and discussions regarding Greenwood’s future have arisen. The report indicates that identifying potential suitors for the English forward, previously linked with clubs like Barca and Atletico Madrid, is proving to be challenging. It has been slightly over a year since Greenwood was cleared of charges related to attempted rape, assault, and coercive behavior. Following United’s internal investigation into his off-field conduct, Greenwood was loaned out to Getafe in September.

ESPN suggests that a permanent departure from Manchester United is the most probable outcome for Greenwood, despite new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe not completely ruling out a return for the 22-year-old. The report also notes that United are likely to seek around £40 million ($51m) for the young English international, whose contract at Old Trafford expires in 2025.

Having not featured for United since January 2022 due to a suspension following an arrest on suspicion of rape and sexual assault, Greenwood underwent solitary training away from the club before joining Getafe on loan for the current season. With eight goals in 26 appearances for the La Liga side, Greenwood’s performances have sparked interest from clubs like Barcelona, although ESPN reports that the Spanish champions have distanced themselves from any potential deal.

Greenwood could potentially play for Getafe in their upcoming home fixture against high-flying Girona in La Liga on Saturday. Following the international break, Jose Bordalas’ team, currently positioned 12th in the table, is set to host Sevilla on March 30th.
