The Turkish club recently announced the signing of an agreement with CFG, with a focus on “growth and success.” As per the terms, CFG will offer Basaksehir guidance in areas such as transfers, academy development, and data-driven insights. Additionally, the group will provide support in player screening and football strategy.

CFG already holds a majority or co-ownership stake in numerous clubs globally, including prominent ones like Manchester City and Girona. While City has achieved treble victories under CFG ownership and Girona made a surprising La Liga title challenge, criticisms have arisen regarding Troyes, which faced relegation from Ligue 1 and was utilized as a tool for signing Savio for Manchester City, despite the player never featuring for the French club.

Goksel Gumusdag, the club president, expressed, “Istanbul Basaksehir FK has attained several firsts in Turkish football despite its youth. This collaboration with the world’s leading football group signifies another significant milestone for Istanbul Basaksehir and Turkish football.” Gumusdag also thanked City Football Group for their support and approach throughout the process, conveying excitement and pride for the partnership.

CFG’s statement emphasized that the agreement entails consultation on various football projects, encompassing long-term strategy, recruitment, scouting, and coaching methodology. This collaboration aims to facilitate IBFK’s growth and pursuit of success while enabling CFG to enhance its knowledge and relationships in Turkey, a nation known for its ambition in football and talent development. The partnership also presents an opportunity for CFG to engage in emerging football areas alongside a club sharing similar visions.

Basaksehir harbors optimism that, with CFG’s assistance, they can ascend to the summit of the Turkish Super Lig, mirroring the successes of Man City and Girona. Nonetheless, there exists a degree of apprehension given the performance of other CFG-affiliated clubs under the group’s guidance.
