According to a report from TMW, the Magpies’ chief scout Steven Nickson visited the city of Lombardy on January 15 to observe Atalanta’s Serie A match against Frosinone before attempting to initiate talks for Ederson.
Despite Newcastle’s persistence and their willingness to invest over €40m in the 24-year-old Brazilian midfielder, Atalanta remained steadfast in their refusal to sell him during the current transfer window.
However, Atalanta indicated a possibility of considering a transfer for Ederson in the summer, providing Newcastle with an opportunity to revisit their interest at the end of the season. Tottenham also emerged as a potential suitor for the Brazilian, suggesting a competitive market for his services.
