West Ham Nears Loan Deal For Kalvin Phillips From Manchester City

West Ham is on the verge of securing a loan deal for Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City until the end of the season. The Hammers have successfully negotiated terms with the Premier League champions and are expected to cover Phillips’ £140,000-a-week wages along with a loan fee to Manchester City. Talks will continue regarding the inclusion of an option to buy in the deal. Phillips, eager for regular playing time, has not started a Premier League game this season and is eyeing a move to bolster his chances of making the England squad for Euro 2024.

Crystal Palace, Newcastle, and Juventus had also expressed interest, but West Ham is the first to reach an agreement. The 28-year-old midfielder, who joined Manchester City in 2022 from Leeds for £45 million, has been with Pep Guardiola’s squad in Abu Dhabi during the winter break and is set to undergo a medical later this week. Although West Ham boss David Moyes attempted to sign Phillips two years ago when he was still with Leeds, the move did not materialize.

Phillips, with limited game time this season, will face competition for a spot in Moyes’ team from the likes of Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse, Tomas Soucek, and Lucas Paqueta. The Englishman is expected to complete the medical on Wednesday. West Ham is also actively seeking to sign a left winger during the transfer window and is looking to move Said Benrahma. The club is anticipating interest from Marseille and Lyon, with Benrahma serving a suspension until after the window closes.
