Sweden is actively seeking a new manager following Janne Andersson’s resignation last year due to their failure to qualify for Euro 2024. According to Fotbollskanalen, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has emerged as a potential candidate for the role, marking his potential return to management since leaving Manchester United in 2021.

Initially, former Sweden star and current IF Brommapojkarna manager Olof Mellberg, along with Australia women’s boss Tony Gustavsson, were considered frontrunners as the Swedish Football Association (SvFF) aimed for them to collaborate. However, discussions with Mellberg have faltered, and while the possibility of Gustavsson taking charge is not ruled out, the governing body is exploring alternative options.

Solskjaer has reportedly expressed interest in the position following a meeting with the federation in December. The ex-Molde manager has been actively seeking a new role, with previous talks reported with Besiktas, although the Turkish team later appointed former Portugal manager Fernando Santos.

As Sweden evaluates potential candidates for the permanent head coach position, the association has ample time before making a decision, given the nation’s absence from Euro 2024 in Germany this summer.
