Former England international Wilfried Zaha, now representing Ivory Coast, has not been named in the 27-man squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in January. Zaha switched allegiance to Ivory Coast in 2017, seeking more international caps.
However, coach Jean-Louis Gasset did not include the 31-year-old winger in the squad, citing his limited recent appearances for the national team. Zaha has played only in two friendlies this year and missed both the Cup of Nations qualifiers and the World Cup qualifying matches. While Zaha’s exclusion may not come as a surprise, players like Serge Aurier, Ibrahim Sangare, and Willy Boly secured spots in the squad.
Sebastien Haller and Karim Konate are also part of the team set to face Guinea-Bissau in the tournament opener on January 13. Zaha, currently with Galatasaray, will now focus on his club performance as they prepare for a Turkish Super Cup fixture against Fenerbahce.
