Last week, the Dutch international expressed his emotions on social media, lamenting that what was supposed to be the pinnacle of his career had turned into a nightmare. In an attempt to lift his spirits, Atalanta fans placed a banner in front of his Bergamo home this morning.
The banner conveyed a message of unity, perseverance, and dedication, stating, “Sense of belonging, sacrifice and a sweaty shirt at all times. De Roon, you have already conquered your cup.” De Roon shared the image on his official Instagram account, expressing gratitude to Atalanta supporters.
“Ok, this made me tear up this morning,” the midfielder wrote. “I knew we have special fans, but this is so beautiful and such a surprise—right in front of our house, one day before the big final. Thank you so much; it’s truly special.”
