Despite his remarkable goal, Garnacho’s outspoken preference for Ronaldo appears to have led Messi, his compatriot, to unfollow him on Instagram. Rio Ferdinand, a former Man United player, shared that Garnacho revealed Messi unfollowed him due to his open admiration for Ronaldo.

Ferdinand praised Garnacho’s unabashed attitude, stating on his Vibe with Five YouTube channel, “You know what I like about him? He doesn’t give a f***. Garnacho told me that Messi unfollowed him just because he makes no secret of preferring Ronaldo. He comes out, don’t care, ‘I’m a Ronaldo man’. Who’s the GOAT? Ronaldo. (Even) when he’s in the Argentina squad.”

Garnacho had been teammates with Ronaldo for more than a year when Ronaldo returned to Manchester in 2021. It was in April 2022 that fans noticed Messi had unfollowed Garnacho after the young player posted a picture of Ronaldo, hailing him as the greatest of all time.

Despite their shared time as teammates for Argentina, Messi has not re-followed Garnacho on Instagram. Meanwhile, Garnacho continues to relish his incredible goal, which Ferdinand claimed surpassed Wayne Rooney’s famous bicycle kick in the Manchester derby of 2011.
