Luis Diaz has offered his response to his Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota, who displayed solidarity with the Colombian player when he scored against Nottingham Forest last Saturday.
On Saturday evening, the parents of the Colombian forward were subjected to a kidnapping incident. Fortunately, his mother is now safe, but authorities in Colombia are still in the process of searching for his father.
As a result of this family crisis, Diaz was not included in Jurgen Klopp’s squad on Sunday.
During the game, Jota scored the first goal and immediately rushed towards the sidelines to retrieve Diaz’s jersey and raise it high. Liverpool shared the photograph on their social media platforms, and Diaz reacted by using a heart and raised hands emoji.
In a pre-game statement, Klopp confessed, “We had to obviously make a late change because of the private situation involving Luis Diaz.”
“It’s a worrying situation for all of us and it was a pretty tough night. I have never had that before. It’s a new experience I never needed.”
Liverpool remains committed to supporting Diaz during this challenging time, as confirmed in a club statement: “Liverpool Football Club can confirm it is aware of an ongoing situation involving the family of Luis Diaz in Colombia.”
“It is our fervent hope that the matter is resolved safely and at the earliest possible opportunity. In the meantime, the player’s welfare will continue to be our immediate priority.”
The Reds are striving to return to their peak performance, and Klopp’s team displayed their dominance against Nottingham Forest at Anfield, with Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez also making their mark on the score sheet.
