Arsene Wenger expressed his sympathy for Manchester United following their humiliating 3-0 defeat at home to Manchester City. Erik ten Hag’s team delivered a woeful performance and suffered their fifth Premier League loss of the season, leaving them in the eighth position with only 15 points after 10 games, trailing the top four by eight points.

After City’s convincing victory, featuring Erling Haaland’s brace and Phil Foden’s third goal, the former Arsenal manager appeared on beIN Sports. He acknowledged that City had earned their win and noted that the “fighting spirit” within the Manchester United team seemed to have waned after the devastating loss.

Wenger commented, “Well deserved, I would say. The gulf between the two teams became bigger and bigger as the game went on. In the end, for such a big club, you felt sorry for Man United because there is no hope there for the team. I don’t see where they can improve, basically.”

The three-time Premier League champion further remarked, “This team has lost confidence, quality, and even spirit today. I would say it was not a great fighting spirit from Man United on top of that.” One of the underperformers for the home side was Marcus Rashford, who continued to struggle to find the back of the net.

Rashford, the English international, has had a challenging season with only one goal in 10 league games and no goals in his last nine games in all competitions. This sharp decline in goal-scoring form stands in stark contrast to last season when he netted 17 Premier League goals and 30 in all competitions.

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville commented on Rashford’s struggles, stating that “Rashford has been nowhere near his best.” As the forward approached his 26th birthday on October 31, it was expected that he would be entering the prime years of his footballing career.

However, his dip in confidence and individual struggles have had a negative impact on the team, which has failed to score in three separate games this season.
