Former Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic recently made a noteworthy statement, expressing his preference for playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo as opposed to Lionel Messi.
Pjanic dedicated the majority of his professional career to Serie A powerhouses Roma and Juventus. During his tenure with Juventus, the 33-year-old had the opportunity to share the pitch with Cristiano Ronaldo in 77 matches over two seasons, spanning from 2018 to 2020.
Together, they achieved considerable success at Juventus, clinching three trophies, which included two Serie A titles. Subsequently, the Bosnia and Herzegovina international made a €60 million move to Barcelona in the summer of 2020.
Despite the chance to partner with Lionel Messi at Barcelona, Pjanic’s stint with the Blaugrana proved to be less fruitful. In the 2020-21 season, he made 30 appearances, with just 13 starts, and failed to contribute any goals.
In a recent interview with O Jogo, Pjanic compared the two football superstars and expressed his admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo, stating, “I talk a lot with Cristiano Ronaldo. I have many memories with him, he is a great footballer. He’s the best I’ve ever played with. He is among the two, three strongest players in history.”
“I was lucky enough to play with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi and it’s hard to say who is stronger. However, I had more fun with Ronaldo than Messi.”
Pjanic acknowledged the challenge of determining who is the superior player between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi but mentioned that he derived more enjoyment from playing with Ronaldo.
In 2022, Pjanic left Barcelona to join Sharjah FC in the UAE Pro League, where he continues to ply his trade to this day.
