French soccer player Kylian Mbappe once expressed his eagerness to meet Rafael Nadal, the 14-time Roland Garros champion.
During the 2017 French Open, Mbappe shared in an interview with France TV his longstanding admiration for Nadal, revealing that the Spanish tennis star had always captivated him. At that time, Mbappe was playing for AS Monaco, but later that year, he transferred to Paris Saint-Germain.
Reflecting on Nadal, Mbappe remarked, “It’s Nadal who really fascinates me. I didn’t have the opportunity (to meet him), but I would like to.”
Mbappe further disclosed that the 22-time Grand Slam winner holds the title of his favorite tennis player. He expressed, “Rafael Nadal is my favourite because he’s incredible on clay. And I’m backing Jo-Wilfried Tsonga too – though I’m biased, because I’ve got a soft spot for him!”
He extended his congratulations to Nadal for his victory at the 2017 French Open. However, Mbappe’s wish was granted when he briefly interacted with both Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer at Roland Garros. Following their conversation, he commended the two tennis icons. Mbappe praised Nadal and Federer for their enduring excellence on the ATP tour.
Mbappe remarked in an interview with Paris Match Magazine, “I watch basketball and tennis a lot. At Roland Garros, where I love to go, I had the opportunity to chat with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal. I admire these champions, who have been able to stay on top for many years. It’s not for everyone to have such consistency.”
Recently, Mbappe announced his departure from PSG in the upcoming summer. He bid farewell to Paris Saint-Germain by playing his final match at Parc des Princes, ending in a 1-3 defeat against Toulouse last Sunday. Nonetheless, the 25-year-old managed to score a goal in his farewell appearance for the Ligue 1 giants.
Mbappe was also spotted playing tennis on a clay court alongside French soccer player Moustapha Diatta, as evidenced by a picture shared on Instagram. The image captures the two athletes standing together after their tennis match.
