The Spaniard is currently without a club, having departed from Manchester United during the summer months. There has been significant speculation regarding his next career move. Initially, there were strong links connecting De Gea to a transfer to Real Madrid; however, the Spanish club ultimately opted for a loan deal with Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga instead.

A potential switch to the German champions Bayern Munich also failed to materialize. Notably, he was recently seen in Manchester, engaging in training sessions, leading some United fans to advocate for his return, especially given the struggles of replacement Andre Onana.

Nonetheless, despite his professional football career currently being on hold, De Gea has been actively involved in ventures off the pitch.

In 2021, at the age of 32, he established his own eSports team named “Rebels Gaming.”

A year later, his former Manchester United teammate Juan Mata and the current club captain, Bruno Fernandes, became shareholders in this initiative.

In a recent Instagram story, De Gea proudly showcased the eye-catching new kit that his eSports team has introduced, aptly named “The Red Spike.”

This kit features a black base adorned with a striking red pattern and a white collar, and it is available for purchase at £47.65 (€54.90).

Rebels Gaming boasts an Instagram following of over 28,000 fans and actively participates in various eSports tournaments encompassing games such as League of Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, and Valorant.

The grand prize for winning the primary event, particularly in League of Legends, is estimated to be a substantial £1.8 million.

De Gea has conveyed his vision for Rebels Gaming on the team’s website, saying, “The launch of Rebels Gaming within eSports is another dream come true.

It is a project that aims to instill in the new generations of young people the core values that have been with me since my early days in professional football, all within a framework of innovation and cutting-edge technological development.

The digital age and the latest technologies create a new arena in which to cultivate new skills and dreams. Let’s seize this great opportunity and build a better society.”

It’s worth noting that the rapid growth of eSports has not gone unnoticed by those with deep pockets.

Recently, Saudi Arabia launched the Gamers8 eSports festival, featuring an unprecedented prize pool worth £37 million.

According to eSports Insider, the tournament distributed approximately £4 million in prize money to eSports organizations that performed well across multiple titles at the festival, including games in which Rebels Gaming competes, alongside titles like Dota 2, Rocket League, and Fortnite.

Furthermore, British eSports inked a collaborative agreement with the Gulf States’ own federation last week.
