Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Euro 2024 qualification match against Liechtenstein came to a halt when fans launched flares onto the field. Bosnia held a comfortable two-goal lead over the micro-nation before their supporters began throwing objects onto the pitch. When the referee intervened to stop the game, a firework narrowly missed the official.

Bosnia, a nation that emerged from the aftermath of the Yugoslavian civil war, achieved a remarkable feat by qualifying for the 2014 World Cup, which marked a pinnacle for this small country.

However, Bosnian fans have grown increasingly frustrated with their Football Association (FA) in recent years, accusing it of neglecting the national team, prompting the protest on Friday.

“Winning on the pitch. Winning in the stands. The fight for a better future for Bosnian-Herzegovinian football has begun,” one fan expressed. Another supporter remarked, “We have suffered for several years because of the Bosnian Football Federation, Bravo!”

A third person added humorously, “We‘re such a fun country, truly never a boring day here,” Yet another quipped, “About time. Bravo BHF!”

Last month, Vico Zeljkovic, the President of the Bosnian FA, responded to fan discontent by saying, “Are fans calling me out? I’m not aware! Maybe they should organise themselves better so I can hear.”

The match eventually resumed, with Bosnia securing a 2-0 victory. Nonetheless, the Balkan side currently occupies fourth place in Group J. They are positioned just ahead of Liechtenstein, who have yet to secure a victory in this qualification campaign, and a struggling Icelandic team.

Surprisingly, Bosnia finds itself trailing behind Luxembourg in their Euro 2024 qualification group.
