Arsenal supporters implored Mikel Arteta to make a substitution, urging the introduction of Aaron Ramsdale, as David Raya committed three costly errors in the first half, nearly gifting Manchester City the lead.

Ramsdale, who arrived at Arsenal during the summer transfer window from Brentford, has seemingly displaced the England international goalkeeper. He has started the previous six matches across all competitions. This move raised eyebrows since Ramsdale had an impressive season with the Gunners last year.

However, Raya did not provide the composure that Arteta sought, as he came close to conceding three goals to Manchester City within the first 25 minutes of the game. Following his poor start, Arsenal fans pleaded with Arteta to substitute him.

Raya’s first mishap occurred during City’s initial set-piece opportunity. He misjudged a deep corner, allowing the ball to sail over his head, which would have resulted in an open goal for Josko Gvardiol if not for Declan Rice’s swift clearance off the line.

Ten minutes later, Raya hesitated with the ball for too long, leading to Julian Alvarez charging him down and blocking his attempted clearance. Fortunately for Raya, the ball hit the side netting instead of finding the back of the net.

Five minutes after this glaring error, he made a weak pass to his teammate Jorginho, putting him in a dangerous position with three City players right behind him. After his highly uncertain start to the game, Arsenal fans collectively called for his substitution.

“One fan tweeted, “David Raya is all over the place,” Another questioned, “I don’t want to be reactionary, but is Raya actually better than Ramsdale,” A third exclaimed, “David Raya is a joke man. I don’t want to hear anything about Ramsdale. Four minutes and Raya is already quivering like this.”

Another Arsenal supporter wrote, “Please sub on Ramsdale,” and a more emphatic fan added, “Arteta is going to sub Ramsdale on for second half. It’s soo obvious because Raya is a bag of nerves today.”

Arteta had previously mentioned his intention to substitute his own goalkeeper on occasion. Given Raya’s shaky start, many fans believed that this would be the moment he followed through on that statement. However, Ramsdale remained seated on the bench.
