As La Albiceleste continued their celebrations at home, the Argentina goalkeeper rekindled his feud with the France forward. Next to Lionel Messi on the team’s open-top bus was Martinez, who had earlier made fun of the Paris Saint-Germain star in the locker room following Argentina’s victory in the final via penalty shootout.
The Frenchman, who scored a hat-trick in the championship game and a penalty in the shootout, has appeared to engage in a verbal battle with the Villa goalkeeper. According to Mbappe, European teams have an advantage over their rivals in South America because countries like Brazil and Argentina don’t play against tough competition.
Martinez replied: “He doesn’t know enough about football. He never played in South America. When you don’t have this experience, it may be better not to talk about it. But it doesn’t matter. We are a great team, recognised as such.”
