Tyler Adams, a midfielder for Championship team Leeds United, is wanted by Bournemouth, who intends to trigger his release clause, which is reportedly worth £20 million.
The 24-year-old American player transferred from German club RB Leipzig to Leeds last summer for around the same money.
Prior to this week, Adams’ move to Chelsea appeared to be a done deal.
He would be the eleventh player to depart the Leeds group that was demoted from the Premier League last year.
Jack Harrison, an attacking midfielder, signed a season-long loan agreement with Everton on Monday.
Adams would be Bournemouth’s ninth summer arrival.
On Thursday, the Premier League team acquired defender Max Aarons from Norwich City and midfielder Alex Scott from Bristol City.
They joined the Cherries together with Hamed Traore, Milos Kerkez, Justin Kluivert, Ionut Radu, and Romain Faivre (who has been loaned to French team Lorient).
