Chelsea are reportedly close to securing the signing of Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders from Genk for £17 million. The 19-year-old, who has captained Belgium’s U19 team, would become the club’s tenth goalkeeper after finalizing the move.

Despite an already crowded goalkeeping department, the Blues are set to loan Penders back to Genk as part of the deal, which includes a sell-on clause for any future transfer. Chelsea’s summer transfer activities have already seen them bring in Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal, adding to an extensive roster that includes Kepa Arrizabalaga, Robert Sanchez, and Djordje Petrovic, among others. Fans have reacted strongly on social media, with many calling for a transfer ban due to the club’s aggressive recruitment strategy.

With multiple goalkeepers in the squad and three more out on loan, Chelsea’s acquisition of Penders has left supporters bewildered, with some suggesting that a transfer ban might benefit the club.
