Manchester City have reportedly contacted Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma about a potential move to the Premier League. This development comes a year after PSG offered Donnarumma and Marco Verratti to City in exchange for Bernardo Silva.
At that time, Silva’s future at Manchester City was uncertain, with links to both Barcelona and PSG. However, Guardiola and City decided against the swap deal.
Donnarumma and Silva remained with their respective teams, while Verratti transferred to Al-Arabi SC in Qatar. Now, with City’s goalkeeper Ederson attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, City has approached Donnarumma once more.
According to Give Me Sport, City has reached out to the 25-year-old Italian goalkeeper regarding the possibility of replacing Ederson. Last year, City rejected PSG’s offer of Verratti and Donnarumma for Silva, reportedly seeking a significant transfer fee and 17-year-old talent Warren Zaire-Emery instead.
Currently, Ederson is reportedly a target for Saudi Pro League giants Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr, where Cristiano Ronaldo plays. Since joining Manchester City in 2017, Ederson has been a crucial part of Guardiola’s successful tenure. Meanwhile, Donnarumma has experienced a mixed period at PSG.
Donnarumma joined PSG on a free transfer after winning Euro 2020 with Italy, where he notably saved penalties from Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka. He has since won three Ligue 1 titles and the 2024 French Cup with PSG. His contract with PSG runs until June 30, 2026.
Give Me Sport also reports that Donnarumma is happy in France and has initiated early discussions about extending his contract. Nonetheless, he has expressed interest in playing in the Premier League someday. Should Ederson leave, Guardiola can also rely on Stefan Ortega, who was a dependable backup last season.
