Dutch striker Wout Weghorst is set to leave Burnley after returning from a loan spell with Hoffenheim and appearances for Holland in the Euros. Despite new Turf Moor boss Scott Parker’s willingness to work with him, the 31-year-old is keen to play at a higher level elsewhere.

Weghorst joined Burnley from Wolfsburg for £12 million in January 2022, scoring two goals in 20 matches. After Burnley’s relegation, he spent six months on loan at Besiktas, netting nine goals in 18 games. His stint was cut short when Manchester United loaned him in January 2023, where he scored two goals in 31 appearances.

Upon his return to Burnley, Weghorst was loaned to Hoffenheim last summer, scoring seven goals in 30 games. With no place in Burnley’s squad, Ajax and Besiktas are potential destinations for him. Weghorst’s consistent performance across various leagues makes him a valuable asset for clubs seeking an experienced, tall striker.
