The incident occurred in the 68th minute with Wolves leading 1-0, as Podence punched a Como defender amidst rising tensions.

The trouble began when Hwang claimed he had been racially abused by a Como player. Wolves manager Gary O’Neil addressed the situation with Hwang, offering him the chance to abandon the match. However, Hwang opted to continue playing, prioritizing the team’s preparation. O’Neil praised Hwang’s resilience and expressed disappointment over the incident, stating, “It’s really disappointing that it happened… things like that shouldn’t be around.”

A club statement condemned the incident and announced plans to submit a formal complaint to UEFA. “Racism or discrimination in any form is completely unacceptable and should never be left unchallenged,” it read. Como has yet to comment publicly on the matter. Despite the disruption, Wolves secured a 1-0 victory, with Matt Doherty scoring the decisive goal.
