During last night’s match at the Stadio Olimpico, tensions flared between Roma and Bayer Leverkusen players following the Germans’ second goal. La Repubblica suggests that the altercation likely stemmed from a Leandro Paredes challenge on Josip Stanišić.

The heated exchange occurred in the dying minutes of the Roma-Bayer Leverkusen clash, resulting in yellow cards for Granit Xhaka and Leonardo Spinazzola.

The scuffle erupted following Robert Andrich’s 73rd-minute goal, extending for over a minute.

Matteo Pinci, La Repubblica’s correspondent in Rome, speculated that the dispute originated from a possible foul by Paredes on Stanišić just before Bayer Leverkusen’s second goal. Bayer Leverkusen players demanded a yellow card for Paredes, who defended himself.

Sardar Azmoun, on loan at Roma from Bayer Leverkusen, attempted to mediate between his former and current teammates, while Bayer defender Jonathan Tah singled out Paredes, who has been embroiled in previous conflicts this season, notably in the recent derby della Capital and a home defeat against Bologna.
