Glen Johnson Suggests Chelsea Should Consider Signing Raphael Varane

Former Chelsea player Glen Johnson has recommended that Chelsea should consider signing Manchester United’s Raphael Varane, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season. Despite Varane’s mixed spell at United, Johnson believes the French defender could still be a valuable addition to Chelsea’s squad.

Johnson stated, “Good players like that don’t come around often and they certainly come around less often on a free transfer. I know he’s not the Varane he was three or four years ago but he’s still a bloody good player.”Varane, a multiple Champions League winner, has struggled with injuries during his time at United, but Johnson believes his experience and quality make him a worthwhile signing, especially on a free transfer. With Chelsea likely to seek a replacement for the departing Thiago Silva, Varane could provide the leadership and experience needed in the squad.

Johnson emphasized, “As we saw with Thiago Silva, those sort of players who have done everything, played for top teams and clubs, they get the attention of the dressing room. They’re the big names that the younger players want to look up to and obviously they’re great to have around.”

Here is the highlight video of Varane’s defending skills.
