Before the Champions League clash, tensions rise as two European giants prepare to resume their rivalry. Seven years since departing from Camp Nou following a remarkable tenure, Enrique finds himself facing the team he once cherished.

Yet, personal ties must yield to professional rivalry as Paris Saint-Germain welcomes Barcelona on Wednesday evening. Amid mounting anticipation, Enrique has taken a swipe at his counterpart, asserting his football philosophy as more in line with Barcelona’s tradition than Xavi’s.

“Without a doubt, it’s me,” Enrique asserted to reporters. “It’s not an opinion, look at the statistics, in terms of possession, chances, pressing, trophies… Others might have a different opinion, but it’s definitely me. My love story with Barcelona goes back many years, but my profession comes first.”

Asked whether his familiarity with Barcelona and Xavi would offer an advantage, Enrique remarked, “I’ve known him (Xavi) as a teammate, as my player, but not as a coach. I know the club very well, but I don’t know whether it’ll be an advantage.”

“Nobody can say that this Barcelona team is weak, they are strong. They’re doing well going forward, they have good players, and they’re a club with a lot of experience, having already won five titles. It’s not easy, but I’m feeling motivated.”

In 2015, Enrique came close to clinching the sextuple, falling just short against Athletic Club in the Supercopa de España. Nonetheless, his tenure was marked by immense success, securing nine trophies in three seasons.

Now at PSG, Enrique is tasked with guiding the team to their maiden Champions League triumph, aiming to overcome past disappointments despite substantial investments in star-studded line-ups. Following their 4-1 aggregate victory over Real Sociedad in the round of 16, bolstered by the unstoppable Kylian Mbappé, the French champions harbor aspirations of European glory.
