Arsenal midfielder Frida Maanum, 24, has been fitted with a heart monitoring device following her collapse during Sunday’s Continental Cup final. Maanum collapsed off the ball in injury time and was treated on the pitch at Molineux by at least ten paramedics before being carried off on a stretcher while receiving oxygen.
The Gunners provided an update on Maanum’s condition, stating that she underwent extensive testing and received support from the medical team. Two leading cardiologists reviewed the test results and found no obvious cardiac causes for the collapse. Maanum has had a monitoring device fitted to record her heart function and will undergo a progressive return to training protocol.
Maanum will not join the Norway national team for their European Championship qualifiers against Finland and the Netherlands. Arsenal confirmed that Maanum is speaking and in stable condition. Her mother, Liz-Heidi Leonhardsen, described the ordeal as a “nightmare” and expressed relief at receiving updates on Maanum’s condition. Maanum is being closely monitored by the Arsenal medical team as she progresses towards a return to play.
