Wilfried Singo revealed the reasons behind his switch from Serie A to Ligue 1 last summer and opted not to disclose specific details regarding Juventus’ interest.

The 23-year-old Ivorian right back spent a productive four years with Torino from January 2019 until August of the previous year, amassing 109 appearances across various competitions during his tenure. His performance in Turin caught the attention of Monaco, who secured his services for approximately €10 million last summer.

Singo has proven to be a shrewd acquisition for the Ligue 1 outfit, demonstrating his capabilities in his debut season by notching a goal and providing an assist in his initial 20 outings. Furthermore, he featured prominently in the Ivory Coast squad that emerged victorious in the Africa Cup of Nations earlier in February.

In an interview with Gianluca Di Marzio, Singo elaborated on his decision to depart Serie A last summer.

“I chose Monaco to play in the Champions League, the coach signed me to help the team achieve this objective.”

When questioned about Juventus’ interest during the same period, Singo refrained from divulging specific details.

“I won’t name names, but I can say that there were also Italian teams that wanted me. I chose Monte Carlo, and I am very happy to be here.”

Singo acknowledged that transitioning from Torino to Monaco represents a step forward in his career trajectory.

“It must be said that moving from Torino to Monaco is a step forward. Now I’m at a big club and I have to take the next step because Monaco aren’t Torino in terms of pressure. It’s up to me to do things right to help the team.”

Lastly, Singo challenged the notion that Ligue 1 is inferior to Serie A.

“They are two slightly different league, I couldn’t say which is more competitive. Ligue 1 is difficult as is the Italian league, which is very tough and tactical.”
