Russian Sofya Andreyevna Zhuk used to play professional tennis. born in Moscow, Russia, on December 1, 1999.

Zhuk started playing tennis at a young age. Coach Olivier Jeunehomme directed her training at the Justine Henin Academy in Belgium from 2014 to 2015. She then relocated to the US and attended the IMG Academy to complete her training. She relocated to Miami, Florida, at the end of 2018 and began training under Patricia Tarabini.

Her early successes were quite outstanding. She won her debut competition at Shymkent in 2014, making ITF history’s record of 17 14-year-olds to win an open tournament at that age. With this accomplishment, she joined an elite group that includes Dinara Safina and Justine Henin, two past world champions.

Zhuk’s career reached its zenith in 2015 when she participated in Wimbledon as an unseeded 15-year-old. She defeated fellow Russian and No. 12 ranked junior Anna Blinkova to win the junior girls title in straight sets, 7–5, 6–4. It’s amazing that Zhuk didn’t lose a set the entire Wimbledon competition. She became just the second Russian girl to win the Junior Wimbledon championship with this triumph.

At the 2016 Miami Open, Zhuk made her debut on the WTA Tour as a single after winning a wildcard into the main tournament. Despite losing to Zhang Shuai in straight sets in the opening round, it was a noteworthy turning point in her career.

Zhuk kept advancing in her career during the ensuing years. She advanced to the Australian Open’s second qualifying round in 2018. Additionally, she advanced to the first-ever WTA 125K series final in Newport Beach, California.
