Leicester Women's Team Manager, Willie Kirk Sacked Over Alleged Relationship With Player

Leicester City have dismissed their women’s team manager, Willie Kirk, following an investigation into an alleged relationship with a player. Kirk, the former Everton boss, had been suspended since March 8 while the club conducted its investigation. Assistant manager Jennifer Foster and first-team coach Stephen Kirby have taken over during Kirk’s absence.

Despite reaching the Women’s FA Cup semi-finals during Kirk’s suspension, Leicester have lost their last two Women’s Super League games. The club stated that Kirk’s dismissal came after an “extensive internal disciplinary process,” finding that he breached the team’s code of conduct to a degree that made his position untenable. Kirk began his football management career at Scottish Livingstone and later worked at Hibernian and Bristol City before joining Leicester in 2022.

The allegations against Kirk have sparked discussions within the football community about relationships between players and managers, with some calling for clearer regulations on the matter. Leicester currently sits ninth in the WSL, ten points above the relegation spot with five games remaining. Kirk has not yet publicly commented on the allegations.
