Manchester United’s upcoming Premier League encounter against Brentford has been rescheduled for a later kick-off on Saturday. The match is set to take place at the Gtech Community Stadium at 8 pm local time on Easter Saturday. This marks the fourth occasion this season that Manchester United supporters have had to witness their team play away from home at 8 pm on a Saturday, surpassing any other team in the English top flight in such scheduling.

The issue arises for visiting fans due to disruptions in train services between London and Manchester over the Easter weekend. The final train from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly on Saturday departs just two minutes before United’s 8 pm kick-off. Furthermore, engineering works mean that there will be no services between the two cities on Easter Sunday. Consequently, Manchester-based fans wishing to attend the game may find themselves obligated to spend the weekend in London unless they opt for a lengthy 410-mile round trip by car.

A representative from the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust conveyed their frustration to The Telegraph, highlighting the repeated disregard shown by television companies and football authorities towards match-going fans. During the pandemic, there was emphasis on the importance of fans in football, yet the spokesperson believes it is time for authorities to demonstrate a genuine commitment to this sentiment.

Chas Banks, secretary of the Manchester United Disabled Supporters’ Association, criticized the scheduling as well, emphasizing the challenges faced by disabled fans. He expressed disappointment at the apparent indifference of football authorities towards the difficulties caused by unconventional kick-off times.

United supporters will journey to London buoyed by a thrilling 4-3 victory over rivals Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals. Manager Erik ten Hag expressed hope that this triumph could mark a turning point for his team, following a challenging campaign for the Red Devils.
