Nottingham Forest Fined £75,000 After Coach's Referee Rant

Nottingham Forest has been fined £75,000 by the FA following an incident where first-team coach Steven Reid verbally abused referee Paul Tierney after a match against Liverpool. Reid called Tierney a highly offensive term three times during a post-match outburst.

The incident occurred after Forest’s 1-0 defeat to Liverpool, with Reid reacting furiously to Tierney’s decision to award possession to Liverpool following a stoppage-time injury to Ibrahima Konate. This decision ultimately led to Liverpool scoring the winning goal. In his report, Tierney stated that Reid approached him on the field, questioning a decision. Despite Tierney’s request to discuss the matter inside, Reid continued to confront him, using offensive language multiple times.

Reid admitted to the first charge but denied repeating the language. However, the Regulatory Commission found Reid guilty of both charges after reviewing video footage and corroborating statements from officials. Forest was also found guilty of surrounding officials, resulting in a hefty fine. The club could have faced a maximum fine of £250,000, but the Commission settled on £75,000.
